Sales of new passenger cars in the European Union grew by 0.1 percent year on year in May to more than 1.4 million vehicles after the previous eight months of decline in a row. This was announced by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
In the first five months of this year, EU car sales fell 2.1 percent year-on-year to 6.7 million. Of the five largest automobile markets in the EU, only Germany has been growing this year, ACEA said.
In May alone, Germany, the largest automobile market in Europe, saw sales increase by around nine percent to 332,962 cars. According to the association, some Central European countries also contributed significantly to the May sales growth in the EU.
