Reservation of 90% capacities concern period from October till the end of next September. Auction results showed that pipeline capacities were reserved in 92% in June already, and in third quarter starting in July were up to 80% booked. On the contrary, May has showed significant decline in natural gas flow through the Yamal pipeline. “Almost everything that was available is currently booked,” said a spokeswoman at Poland’s gas grid operator Gaz-System.
A prior agreement on natural gas supply between Russia and Poland dating back to the 1990s expired in May. In accordance with energy regulations, Warsaw ended its long-term dependence on Russian fuel. Gaz-System currently uses gas auctions from more suppliers, and does not have to rely on willingness and monetary policy of Russian producers.
