Aircraft leasing company SMBC Aviation Capital has placed an order for 60 Airbus A320neo aircraft. It announced this in a press release today, but did not disclose the financial details of the transaction. Based on the market price of the airplanes, the daily Nikkei Asia assumes that the value of the transaction will reach about 3.4 billion dollars (over 76 billion CZK).

Race in orders

The announcement comes days after Airbus’ main rival, US planemaker Boeing, dominated the Dubai air show. While Boeing won new orders for 196 aircraft there, Airbus agreed to deliver 55 machines.

Aircraft leasing

SMBC is the second largest aircraft leasing company in the world. It now owns, manages or has nearly 1,000 aircraft on order. The company was founded in 2001 and was bought in 2012 by a consortium consisting of two large Japanese companies – Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and Sumitomo Corporation.

At the same time, the company announced an increase in profit for the first half of the year by 75 percent to 3.4 billion dollars. According to her, favorable fundamental factors in the leasing sector are behind this result. She also recalled the growth of short-haul air travel around the world and the limited supply of aircraft.
