Macron gives nuclear energy a green light. We will build six new reactors, says the French president

Without nuclear power, France will not be able to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. That’s why French President Emmanuel Macron says building new reactors is the key to green transition.
France will build six new nuclear reactors in the coming decades. French President Emmanuel Macron said this in a speech on Thursday. “Our country needs a rebirth of nuclear energy, the conditions are there,” he said.
The reactors would be built and operated by the state-controlled energy company EDF. The construction of the new nuclear units will require an investment of around 50 billion euros, depending on financing conditions. The first reactor should be in operation in 2035, Macron said.
But France’s nuclear renaissance will not end with six new units. The French president said that building eight more reactors should start immediately after their completion. Macron also promised that the state will be responsible for financing this construction and would provide the necessary money to the EDF group. “In the short, medium and long term,” added Emmanuel Macron.
