Major Asian stock markets lost ground in the middle of the last week of 2021. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is heading for the worst year in ten years.

The Hong Kong stock market index Hang Seng weakened by 0.83 percent on Wednesday and ranked alongside other major Asian stock markets. But investors who bet on Hang Seng earlier this year will have no reason to celebrate.

The Hong Kong Stock Exchange index is aiming for the worst annual result since 2011. If nothing significant happens in the remaining two days, Hang Seng will show a full-year decline of more than 15 percent. In 2011 alone, it sank deeper, by 20 percent.

Shares also lost in Shanghai on Wednesday, where the composite index fell by less than one percent. The Seoul index KOSPI also depreciated 0.89 percent, and shares in Tokyo also lost, where the Nikkei index The Tokyo Nikkei index depreciated 0.56 percent. Asian markets generally reacted to the mixed results of Tuesday’s trading on Wall Street, where the Dow Jones and S&P 500 strengthened only very slightly, while the Nasdaq technology index found itself in negative territory.
