Japan is looking for locations for 45 gigawatts of wind farms. He will choose from the top ten

Japan has opened a tender to build a wind farm in Akita in the north of the country. This is one of the ten areas that the Japanese government has selected for the development of wind energy. By the end of the decade, 10 gigawatts of installed capacity are to grow on the islands.

By 2040, however, the Japanese Ministry of Industry’s plan is even more ambitious: 30 to 45 gigawatts of installed wind capacity. The ministry wants to select sites for building wind farms so that the installed capacity is increased by at least one gigawatt per year. Now the office has opened an auction to occupy the Akita area in the north of the country.

Contrary to the original plans, the auction was launched later due to the coronavirus pandemic. “The preparation took a long time because we needed to talk to local government representatives, but also to potential investors who could be involved in the project,” the Japanese Ministry of Economy said, according to Reuters.

Other areas where wind farms could grow include three in the Sea of Japan and one in the Pacific Ocean. The ministry has previously selected a consortium of companies to build a nearly 17-gigawatt wind farm near Nagasaki.
