US lawmakers want to introduce a bill that would introduce tax breaks for low-carbon aviation fuel. They are promising a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that are at the expense of air transport.

Under the proposal, which is referred to by Reuters, each gallon of low-carbon aviation fuel would be tax relief of $2. It would be a fuel that would be produced from a biofuel. If such a tax break were passed, it would be one of the highest net fuel aid in the world.

In the United States, an average of 45 million gallons of aviation fuel are consumed each day, or about 6% of the total daily consumption of oil, or products there of it, in the US. The bill is to be tabled by a group of Democratic members headed by Brad Schneider.

But it was unclear whether such a standard had any chance of succeeding, as republican lawmakers have long rejected climate legislation. But Schneider said at a thursday press conference that Democrats are working to get the bill backing Republicans as well. If the standard were to pass, the tax relief would be in place until the end of 2031.
